Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday took a jibe at the Congress party during an election rally, claiming that the party was “scared” and resorted to bringing in veteran leader Sonia Gandhi after her “no lie” campaign in Karnataka. .

While the prime minister did not directly name the former Congress chief, his statement at the rally in central Karnataka’s Shivamogga pointed to his recent return to the campaign trail.

He said, ‘Now the Congress is so scared and scared that when their lies did not work, those who are not participating in the election campaign are being brought here. Congress has started putting the responsibility of defeat on each other.

Ms Gandhi, 76, who has been largely absent from public rallies and campaigning since the 2019 Lok Sabha elections due to health concerns, on Saturday addressed her first election meeting in Karnataka ahead of the state’s polling day on May 10. .

He addressed a rally in Hubli in northern Karnataka, where he accused PM Modi and the BJP of spreading “lies” and “dividing” the country.

The move came as a surprise to many, given his recent absence from the political spotlight.

During the rally, the Prime Minister also announced that the “balloon of lies” of the Congress was no longer effective as the people had “burst it.”

As PM Modi was presented with a Hanuman idol and a saffron-coloured ‘Shivaji’ turban, the crowd erupted with slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ (Victory to Lord Ram) and ‘Bajrang Bali ki Jai’ (Victory to Hanuman).

PM Modi expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming response received during his roadshow in Bengaluru earlier that day, which was cut short due to the NEET exam.

The Prime Minister pledged to repay the people of Karnataka for their faith in him, saying, “I want to give you a basic guarantee for your love and blessings, I will develop Karnataka and return your love with interest. “
