PM Modi to attend Liberation Day celebrations in Goa today, inaugurate projects

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Goa on Sunday to attend the Goa Liberation Day celebrations at the Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium in Talegao, Goa at around 3 pm.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the Prime Minister will felicitate freedom fighters and veterans of ‘Operation Vijay’ at the ceremony.

Goa Liberation Day is celebrated every year on 19 December to mark the success of ‘Operation Vijay’ carried out by the Indian Armed Forces that liberated Goa from Portuguese rule.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate several development projects including the renovated Fort Aguada Prison Museum, Super Specialty Block at Goa Medical College, New South Goa District Hospital, Aviation Skill Development Center at Mopa Airport and a gas-insulated substation at Dabolim-Navelim, Margao.

He will also lay the foundation stone of the Bar Council of India Trust’s India International University of Legal Education and Research in Goa.

The Prime Minister will also release a special cover and special cancellations to mark the commemoration of the Indian Armed Forces that liberated Goa from Portuguese rule.

The Prime Minister will also release ‘My Stamp’ depicting the Hutatma Memorial at Patradevi, which salutes the great sacrifices made by the martyrs of the Goa Liberation Movement. A ‘Meghdoot Post Card’ showing a collage of photographs of various incidents during the Goa Liberation War will also be presented to the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister will also distribute awards to the best Panchayat/Municipality, Swayampurna Mitras and beneficiaries of Swayampurna Goa programme.

During his visit, the Prime Minister will also pay floral tributes at the Martyrs Memorial at Azad Maidan in Panaji at around 2:15 pm. He will participate in the sale parade and flypast at Miramar, Panaji at around 2.30 pm.
