PM Modi to confer ‘unforgivable’ digital degree at IIT Kanpur’s convocation today

PM Narendra Modi to attend 54th convocation Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur Tuesday at 11 am. As the chief guest of the convocation, the PM will confer unique ‘unforgivable’ degrees to the students. These digital degrees are developed internally using blockchain-powered technology. IIT has developed the technology under the National Blockchain Project. Modi will launch blockchain-based digital degree. These digital degrees are globally verifiable and are inexhaustible.

Earlier, PM Modi had invited suggestions from IITians, students and alumni as well as other stakeholders On what he should speak about during his address at IIT, “I am looking forward to being in IIT Kanpur. It is a vibrant institution, which has made pioneering contributions towards science and innovation,” the PM said through his Twitter handle.

IIT will host the convocation in hybrid mode. While some people will be allowed on the campus, others will be involved in the online mode. To host people safely on their premises including Chief Guest PM Modi, IIT created Bio Bubble. It claims that IIT will provide a bio-secure environment to reduce contamination risk. As part of the COVID-19 precautions, attendees will have to get the RTPC report a day in advance. Rapid tests will also be conducted at the convocation.

During his visit, Modi will also inaugurate the Bina-Panki multiproduct pipeline project. The 356 km long project has a capacity of about 3.45 million metric tonnes per annum. The project, spanning from Bina Refinery in Madhya Pradesh to Panki in Kanpur, has cost more than Rs 1500 crore. This will help the region to access petroleum products from Bina refinery.

He will also oversee the Kanpur Metro Rail Project and take a Metro ride from IIT Metro Station to Geeta Nagar. The entire length of the metro rail project in Kanpur is 32 km and is being built at a cost of over Rs 11,000 crore.
