PM Modi to preside over the National Conference of Chief Secretaries on January 6-7

New Delhi: With an aim to boost partnership between the Center and states, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair the second National Conference of Chief Secretaries in Delhi on January 6-7, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement.

The first such conference was to be held in Dharamshala in June 2022.

“The objective of the event is to strengthen the partnership between the central and state governments with a focus on rapid and sustained economic growth,” the PMO said.

It will see the participation of over 200 people including representatives of the Central Government, Chief Secretaries and other senior officials from all States/UTs and domain experts.

The conference will lay the groundwork for collaborative action to achieve a developed India with emphasis on growth and employment generation and inclusive human development.

The agenda of the conference has been decided after extensive deliberations in over 150 physical and virtual consultative meetings between nodal ministries, NITI Aayog, States/UTs and domain experts over the past three months.

The conference will cover six themes: support for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), infrastructure and investment, reducing compliance requirements, women empowerment, health and nutrition and skill development.

In addition, there will be three special sessions on ‘Developing India: Reaching the Last Mile’ – Five Year Anniversary of GST, and Global Geopolitical Challenges and India’s Response.

The conference will also include discussions focused on “Vocal for Local”, the International Year of Millets, the role of states in the G20, and emerging technologies. Best practices from the States/UTs under each theme will also be presented at the conference. So that states learn from each other.

As directed by the Prime Minister, three virtual conferences were also held with States and Union Territories prior to the main conference, on the themes of Districts as Hubs of Growth, Circular Economy and Model Union Territories. The outcomes of these virtual conferences will be presented at the National Conference of Chief Secretaries.
