Congress leader and former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Mysuru on April 9 to inaugurate an event, which would be a violation of the model code of conduct for elections.
He said, “How can the Prime Minister come to the government function? We want to check whether the Election Commission has given permission for this program or not. If he does not do it, it will be a violation of the model code of conduct. has the right to allow.” the Congress leader told reporters.
An official said that PM Modi is scheduled to inaugurate a three-day mega event to commemorate 50 years of Project Tiger in Mysuru, Karnataka on April 9. PM Modi is coming to the state after the Model Code of Conduct came into force from March 29.
Siddaramaiah, on the other hand, has expressed his intention to contest from Varuna and Kolar constituencies, but the constituencies are yet to be finalised. His statement has reportedly confirmed the ongoing tussle between Siddaramaiah and state Congress chief DK Shivakumar.
A senior party leader said the leadership tussle between former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah and state Congress chief DK Shivakumar is “pushing the party towards darkness”.
The battle for the chief minister’s post in the state in the assembly elections due in May is intensifying with both the Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar factions engaged in a war of words.
The war has left senior Congress leaders worried about the present form of the party. The infighting has already become a “nightmare” for many Congress leaders, according to most party leaders.
Karnataka will go to polls on May 10 and the elections will be held in a single phase. The counting of votes will take place on May 13.
