PM Narendra Modi will launch PM Gatishakti today: Important things to know

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch PM Gatishakti-National Master Plan for Multi-Modal Connectivity at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi today.

Prime Minister Gatishakti will address past issues through institutionalizing the overall plan for stakeholders for major infrastructure projects. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said that instead of planning and designing separately in silos, the projects would be designed and executed with a common vision.

It will cover infrastructure schemes of various ministries and state governments like Bharatmala, Sagarmala, Inland Waterways, Arid/Land Ports, UDAN etc. Economic sectors such as textile clusters, pharmaceutical clusters, defense corridors, electronic parks, industrial corridors, fishing clusters, areas to improve agricultural connectivity and make Indian businesses more competitive will be covered.

The PMO said in a release that it will widely leverage the technology, including spatial planning tools with ISRO imagery developed by BISAG-N (Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geoinformatics).

PM Gatishakti is based on six pillars:

1. Comprehensive: It will include all existing and planned initiatives of various Ministries and Departments with a single centralized portal. Each department will now have visibility of each other’s activities providing critical data while planning and executing projects in a comprehensive manner.

2. Priority: Through this various departments will be able to prioritize their projects through cross-sectoral interactions.

3. Customization: The National Master Plan will assist various Ministries in planning the projects after identifying critical gaps. For transportation of goods from one place to another, planning will help in choosing the most optimal route in terms of time and cost.

4. Synchronization: Individual ministries and departments often work in silos. There is a lack of coordination in the planning and implementation of the project which results in delays. PM Gatishakti will help in coordinating the activities of each department as well as the various layers of governance in a holistic manner by ensuring co-ordination of work between them.

5. Analytical: The scheme will provide complete data at one place with GIS-based spatial planning and analytical tools having 200+ layers, providing better visibility to the executing agency.

6. Dynamic: All Ministries and Departments will now be able to visualize, review and monitor progress of cross-sectoral projects through GIS platform, as satellite imagery will give on-ground progress from time to time and progress of projects will be updated regularly. Based on portal. This will help in identifying critical interventions to enhance and update the master plan.

PM Gatishakti will provide information to the public and business community about upcoming connectivity projects, other business centres, industrial areas and the surrounding environment.

During the programme, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate the new exhibition complex (Exhibition Halls 2 to 5) at Pragati Maidan. India Trade Promotion Organisation’s flagship event, India International Trade Fair (IITF) 2021 will also be held in these new exhibition halls from November 14-27, 2021.
