Volvo’s EV partner Polestar has announced an over the air (OTA) update for Polestar 2 owners that will now get them Android Automotive based on the Android R update. The update brings advanced app functionality that developers will need to build into their apps. The complete roll out of the update will start from this month – April 2022 sequentially.

The enhancements are downloaded and installed remotely, allowing Polestar 2 owners to outperform the infotainment system and will allow for greater personalization. This major update follows 10 updates which were a combination of bug fixes and over 100 other improvements.

Polestar updates an average of one OTA every 7 weeks. One of the recent updates includes drivetrain enhancements, the ability to set charging times, and improvements to the digital key. The climate control system and real world range have also been improved with battery optimization and preconditioning.

More than 90 percent of Polestar 2 owners have installed OTA updates. Recently, Vivaldi also introduced its web browser for Polestar 2 which also became the first web browser for Android Automotive. There is also a video player and an improved RoutePlanner with over 12,000 downloads as of March 2022.
