Police arrest 5 BJP workers for throwing shoe at Tamil Nadu FM’s car

Five Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers were arrested after throwing shoes at a car in Madurai on Saturday. Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan told news agency ANI. The minister was returning after paying homage to a martyr of the Indian Army hailing from the district.

Rifleman D Lakshmanan, a resident of T Pudupatti village in the district, was among the soldiers killed in the terrorist attack on Thursday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri. His body reached Madurai for the last rites. Ministers, officials and state BJP chief K Annamalai paid tributes to the departed soldier. Police said a heated argument broke out between the minister and BJP workers present at the venue as they asked why party men had come to a government function organized to pay tribute to the martyr, leading to some debate. Thiaga Rajan was on his way out of the airport when some suspected BJP workers stopped his car, while a slipper thrown at the vehicle got stuck in his windscreen.

The commissioner said that BJP workers have been arrested under various sections including 506, 341 and 34 of the IPC. Further investigation is going on.
