Addressing the felicitation ceremony to honor the CBI awardees, Chief Justice of India NV Ramana on April 01 said that the image of the police has been tarnished due to corruption and close ties with the political class. “People are hesitant to approach the police in times of despair. Corruption, police excesses, lack of impartiality and close links with the political class tarnish its image. Often police officers complained of being harassed after a change of regime. “The police must break ties with the political executive and regain social legitimacy and public confidence and stand up for morality and integrity. This is true for all institutions,” he said.
