After tasting incredible success with the Taycan, Porsche has now set its eyes on developing another EV, according to a report in Car & Driver. Reportedly it will be the 718 but the report also states that the German giant from Stuttgart has no plans to build an electric or hybrid version of its iconic 911 sports car – and that car may well be based on gasoline power. 2030 means it may just become a niche enthusiast model. The 718 will be offered in soft-top Boxster and hardtop Cayman models and the styling will be similar to the current model, though it will get a completely new electric front design. The Mission R concept has clues about the Porsche. Porsche has ambitions to make a very light electric car that could weigh 1655.6 kg which would be 660 kg less than the Taycan.

Porsche is developing a new platform that is not just a smaller version of the PPE platform as it is a more advanced one featuring lightweight technology. Car and Driver believes it to be the most modern Porsche ever. It is said that the entry-level model will have a single rear motor and they will be priced similar to the current 718. The higher-end SKUs will have dual motors, all-wheel-drive traction, and have a longer driving range. About 402 kms.

This means the 718 could reach 911 levels of price and performance, although it will be less powerful than the Taycan with a launch window of 2024.
