Power distribution companies owe more than Rs 1.56 lakh crore: Minister

The total outstanding dues by power distribution utilities or discoms to generation firms (gencos) is estimated to be over Rs 1.56 lakh crore, Parliament was informed on Thursday.

In a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha, Power Minister RK Singh said, “Discoms have not been able to make payments to the generating companies for the purchase of power, and the outstanding payments to the generating companies are estimated to be more than ₹ 1,56,000 crore. ” ,

“The arrears of renewable generators are around 11 months of revenue. Therefore, the reforms have been deliberated upon in consultation with the states and all stakeholders.

The minister said that the condition of most of the state-owned distribution companies is a matter of grave concern.

Their AT&C (total technical and commercial) losses range from an average of 21% to a maximum of 60.16% at the end of 2019-20.

The difference between Average Cost of Supply (ACS) and Average Revenue Received (ARR) excluding regulatory assets and Ujjwal Discom Assurance Yojana (UDAY) averaged 60 paise per unit in 2019-20 and the accumulated loss of all discoms in the country till 2019 . -20 has increased to ₹5,07,416 crore.

About the government’s plans to introduce a bill to enable the electricity consumer to choose from multiple service providers, the minister said, “No final decision has been taken yet.”
