Pre-nomination spectacle — Modi ignites campaign trail with grand roadshow in Varanasi

Varanasi: A day before filing his nomination paper, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday held an over 5 km roadshow in Varanasi. He commenced his roadshow at 5pm by garlanding the statue of noted educationist and social reformer Madan Mohan Malviya at the entrance of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and ended it near Kashi Vishwanath Temple.

Modi is seeking a third consecutive term from the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat that will go to polls on 1 June in the seventh and last phase of the elections.

Throngs of people lined the streets to observe the spectacle. Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, was present alongside PM Modi atop the procession vehicle, as chants of “Modi, Modi” resonated throughout the city. The cityscape was adorned with large banners, posters, lights and flower showers to welcome the PM.
