The Karnataka Health Department on Sunday said that precautionary doses of COVID-19 vaccine for healthcare workers, frontline workers and persons above 60 years of age with co-morbidities will be started from January 10, with a target of around 21 lakh in the state. Health care workers (HCWs) and frontline workers (FLWs) who have completed 9 months or 39 weeks from the date of second dose vaccination registered on the CoWIN portal are eligible for precautionary dose vaccination.

There is a similar criterion for persons above 60 years of age with co-morbidities, and no medical certificate is required for eligible beneficiaries to take the precautionary dose.

The precautionary dose will be the same vaccine dose that was given earlier.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will launch this precautionary dose vaccination at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College and Research Center at 10 am on Monday, while ministers in charge of all districts and taluks are planned to launch this, a health department release said.

“In nine months/39 weeks, 6 lakh health workers, 7 lakh frontline workers and 8 lakh persons above 60 years of age with co-morbidities will receive the precautionary dose,” it said.

It states that beneficiaries who have received Sputnik as the first and second doses are not yet eligible for the precaution.
