Manchester City host Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium in a first versus second battle for a possible Premier League title clash on Sunday. The game lived up to the hype, as both teams went right on it. This was the attack where both the teams stood out showing their defensive issues.

City kept possession, pressed Liverpool high, and tried to score an early goal, which they found after Kevin de Bruyne put his team ahead in the fifth minute, when Sterling made a big save from Alisson a minute earlier. Of. The crowd was on their feet during the first half as the intensity of the game progressed. It was complete end-to-end stuff of both teams.

Liverpool equalized in the 13th minute via Diogo Jota. Reuben Dias was a huge miss for City and showed that Liverpool’s dynamic front line was capable of going behind City’s defence. The two teams faced each other in the 36th minute as Gabriel Jesus gave Manchester City half a chance to take the lead. Joo Cancello found Brazil unmarked behind the Reds’ defense and broke it in Alisson’s net to make it 2–1 for the hosts.

Manchester City remains on top

Liverpool started the second half on the front foot as Sadio Mane gave Jurgen Klopp’s men an equalizer within 46 seconds of the restart. But that in no way undermined Man City’s confidence. Pep Guardiola’s men took the lead for the third time in the game, this time through Raheem Sterling, but it was dismissed for offside in the 63rd minute.

Riyad Mahrez came very close to hitting a free-kick in the 90th minute, but it was just off target. The Algerian had another chance during extra time, but passed the goal after a face-off with Alisson.

The game ended 2–2, and there was still a gap of just one point between Manchester City and second-placed Liverpool. With seven more games to go in the English top-flight, it could go anywhere between now and the end of the season.
