Tomas Sousek scored the only goal as West Ham thrashed Wolves 1-0 in the Premier League on Sunday to put themselves within two points of fourth-placed Manchester United.

David Moyes, who had drawn his last two matches, climbed above Arsenal on his 27th birthday at the London Stadium thanks to a 59th-minute goal from Sousek.

Manchester United are just seven points away from eighth-placed Wolves, who, despite their defeat, are looking to make a place in next season’s Champions League.

Moyes said before the game that he would like to score more goals than Michael Antonio and Sousek.

Striker Antonio has not found the net since New Year’s Day, while Sousek, who scored 10 goals from midfield last season, was stuck on just three this term.

The two combined for the only goal of the match just before the hour mark with Czech international Sousek putting Antonio’s cross ahead of Jose Sa in the right place at the right time.

West Ham now have 45 points, the same as Arsenal, who have three games to spare.

The Hammers have not finished in the top four of the English top flight since the 1985/86 season, when they finished third under manager John Lyell.
