President of European Commission on visit to India

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will visit India from April 24-25, the foreign ministry announced on Tuesday. Top officials of the European Commission have been vocal in their opposition to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which they have called “barbaric”.

“India and the EU share a vibrant strategic partnership that is witnessing strong growth with broad and in-depth cooperation in political and strategic, trade and commerce, climate and sustainability, digital and technology aspects as well as people-to-people relations. ” The Ministry of External Affairs said in an official statement about the upcoming visit.

Ursula von der Leyen is expected to attend the annual Raisina Dialogue here during the visit, when she will also hold official talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind. The Ukraine crisis is expected to dominate the discussions during his visit.

“The forthcoming visit of the President of the European Commission will be an opportunity to review progress and further intensify the multi-faceted partnership with the European Union,” the official release said.
