Writer and philanthropist Sudha Murthy was recently awarded the Padma Bhushan by President Draupadi Murmu for her social work. His daughter, Akshata Murthy, who is married to UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, was among those present at the ceremony. Later, he took to Instagram to share his “speakless pride” as his mother received the award for her extraordinary journey. UK PM Rishi Sunak reacted to the same and said that it is a “proud day”.

“Yesterday I watched with unspeakable pride as my mother received the Padma Bhushan award from the President of India for her contribution to social work,” Ms Murthy wrote.

Although Sudha Murthy’s charity and voluntary activities became her daughter’s biggest influence, Britain’s First Lady claimed that her mother has had a remarkable journey. He emphasized the many ways in which his mother has supported the less fortunate, including forming and managing charitable institutions for 25 years, sponsoring various programs to increase literacy, and helping remote areas of the country after natural disasters. This includes assuring immediate relief to those living in the areas.

“His example volunteering, learning & listening has put my heart into how I hope to live @10downingstreet,” she added.

The First Lady of the United Kingdom further stated that the ceremony was a “moving experience”. “My mom doesn’t live for recognition. The values ​​my parents instilled in my brother and me — hard work, humility, selflessness — mean she’s always on to the next thing. A moment of recognition tomorrow,” he concluded.

Responding to the same, her husband and UK PM Rishi Sunak commented on the post, “A proud day,” with two clapping emojis.

Sudha Murthy’s husband and Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy, son Rohan Murthy and her sister Dr Sunanda Kulkarni were also present at the ceremony. Sudhar Murthy, a philanthropist, and renowned author, was also the chairman of the Infosys Foundation till December 2021.
