Prime Volleyball League will be auctioned on Tuesday

Baseline Ventures-backed Prime Volleyball League has announced that its seven franchises will auction Indian and international players on Tuesday. The league has teams like Calicut Heroes, Kochi Blue Spikers, Ahmedabad Defenders, Hyderabad Black Hawks, Chennai Blitz, Bengaluru Torpedoes and Kolkata Thunderbolts.

More than 400 players will be auctioned in this event. Each franchise can select a total of 14 players and will include 12 Indian and two international players.

Indian volleyball players like Aswal Rai, Ajitlal C, Akhin GS, Dipesh Kumar Sinha, Jerome Vineet, Karthik A, Naveen Raja Jacob and Vineet Kumar have been placed in the Platinum category, while the Gold, Silver and Bronze categories will comprise 33,141 . and 205 players respectively. A total of 23 players will also enter the field in the Under-21 category.

International players including David Lee of America and Luis Antonio Arias Guzmán of Venezuela will be included in the draft of their international player during the auction.

Tuhin Mishra, co-founder and managing director of sports marketing firm Baseline Ventures, said he would like to see the franchise build his squad at the auction this week.

Joy Bhattacharya, CEO of the league said, India has many talented budding volleyball players, and the company was pleased to provide them with the opportunity to play alongside some international level volleyball players. “The auction is the beginning of the volleyball revolution we envisioned for India and we can’t wait to see action on Tuesday,” he said.

The league next year announced the names of head coaches for each of the franchises for the upcoming season. It said that Ahmedabad’s defenders would be trained by Sajjad Hussain and S Dakshinamurthy; Bengaluru Torpedo will be led by KR Laxminarayan; Calicut Heroes by Kishore Kumar; Chennai Blitz by Chander Singh; Hyderabad Black Hawks by Ruben Volochkin; Kochi Blue Spikers by MH Kumara and Kolkata Thunderbolts by Sunny Joseph.

The league will be broadcast on Sony Pictures Networks and will be marketed by Baseline Ventures. There will be 24 matches in this.

The global volleyball market was valued at $261.1 million in 2019. The market size will reach $270.5 million by the end of 2026, growing at a CAGR of 0.5% during 2021-2026.
