Princess Diana’s gown auctioned for over Rs 4.9 crore in New York

Princess Diana’s iconic purple velvet dress sold for $600,000 (about Rs 4.9 crore) at an auction on Friday. The dress fetched more than five times the pre-estimate price, making it the royal’s most expensive gown ever. The auction was conducted by Sotheby’s in New York.

According to Cynthia Hulton, a senior vice president and global head of fashion and accessories at Sotheby’s, the dress represents late 1980s fashion. “This gown looks very similar in some ways to gowns that were worn 100 years ago, and some version of this gown is exactly the same today,” he was quoted as saying by the outlet.
