Earlier in the day, a magistrate’s court on Thursday remanded social media influencer Sapna Gill, arrested in the case, to police custody till February 20.

In addition to the original charges of rioting and extortion, the Oshiwara police also invoked Indian Penal Code section 387 (putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt in order to commit extortion).

Gill’s friend Shobhit Thakur and others are yet to be traced, while the two accused allegedly followed the cricketer’s car when he was going to Oshiwara police station after the incident on Friday, an official said.

The main accused in the case had called these two people to the spot, saying that their role in the attack had been proved.

On Thursday, based on a complaint by Shaw’s friend and flatmate Ashish Yadav, the Oshiwara police booked Gill, his friend Thakur and six others under sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 148 (rioting), 384 (extortion) of the Indian Penal Code. Case registered under. § 506 (criminal intimidation).

Gill was produced in the magistrate’s court on Friday.

The incident took place on Wednesday. The investigating officer told the court that Thakur and Gill approached Shaw for a selfie at the hotel. Initially, the cricketer obliged him. But when he insisted on clicking more selfies, he refused, following which Gill and Thakur started abusing the cricketer, he alleged.

The hotel manager intervened and asked Gill and Thakur to leave the premises.

After this Shaw and his friends had dinner at the hotel. Citing Yadav’s complaint, the officer told the court that when he was leaving, he saw Thakur standing outside with a baseball bat in his hand.

After getting into the car, the accused attacked the car window with a baseball bat. Shaw was also beaten up by Gill. Sensing more trouble, the cricketer was shifted to another car while Yadav and others drove their vehicle to Oshiwara, the IO told the magistrate.

Yadav then saw three motorcycles and a white colored car following his vehicle. Around 4 am, people following her attacked her car when it was taking a U-turn near a petrol pump on Link Road. The IO said that Thakur, who was one of them, broke the rear windshield with a baseball bat.

The IO said that six men on a motorcycle, along with Gill and Thakur, misbehaved with Yadav.

Yadav then took the car to the Oshiwara police station. Eight accused also followed them there. The investigating officer said Gill demanded Rs 50,000 from Yadav to settle the matter, else she would file a false police complaint against him.

While Gill’s lawyer denied all allegations, the social media influencer himself directly addressed the court, stating that all allegations against him were false and “he (Shaw) hit me on the chest and arms.” On the claim that the incident happened when he asked for a selfie with Shaw, Gill said, “I don’t know him, nor have I ever seen him. I never asked for a selfie with him.” He also accused Shaw of being drunk.
