Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw On February 15, he was allegedly assaulted outside a luxury hotel in Santa Cruz and his car was attacked with a baseball bat. Shaw had got into an argument with social media influencer Sapna Gill and her friend Shobhit Thakur after the player refused to click a selfie with them, police officials said on Thursday.
Following the incident, Sapna was arrested, while her friend Shobhit Thakur and six others were booked on charges of rioting and extortion. As per preliminary information, Oshiwara police said that a case has been registered against the accused under IPC sections 143, 148,149, 384, 437, 504 and 506.
DCP Anil Paraskar while talking to India TV gave more details on the matter.
DCP Paraskar told in the information that this is the incident of February 15, 2023, in which the controversy started regarding the selfie. The club of the hotel where this incident took place comes under the purview of Santa Cruz. When the matter happened there, those people (Sapna and her friends) were thrown out of the club, when Prithvi came out, the accused followed his car and started arguing with him. After this, they broke the glass of the car while pushing and fighting. When the matter escalated, the miscreants gathered a crowd and demanded Rs 50,000 from the complainant to compromise.
Earth will be interrogated if needed
Paraskar further said that no complaint has been made against Prithvi and his associates, nor has any cross FIR been registered. More details of the case will be known after further investigation. If needed, Prithvi will also be called for questioning and further decision will be taken by the investigating officer. The DCP also told that one has been arrested in this case, the rest will also be arrested soon. Along with this, their background is also being investigated.
