Prohibition on offering sacrifices in Shanghmughom

Bali offerings have been banned in Shanghmugham this year due to rough sea conditions and the potential for accidents.

District Collector Navjot Khosa, chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, issued an order on Tuesday banning Bali and related rituals to be conducted in connection with Kadkidka Vavu.

Police have been directed to ensure that people do not gather at Shanghmugham beach or enter the water to offer Bali.

In 2019 and 2021, sea outbreaks completely destroyed the sea wall and walkway at Shanghamugham. There is work going on. Barricades have been put up to prevent the entry of the public on the beach. Presently, the sea has encroached upon the wall of the diaphragm, and a deep depression has formed. Since accidents are more prone to accidents here than at other beaches, there are technical constraints in deploying a scuba diving team for rescue operations or for rubber dinghy dropping anchors. In such a situation, the public should cooperate with the authorities, the collector said.
