Higher Education and Social Justice Minister R. Bindu said that special arrangements would be made at tourist places across the state to showcase the artistic talent of the people of the transgender community.

The minister said the project will also ensure remuneration for transgender people. She was speaking after inaugurating Varnakittu, the state transgender arts and cultural festival organized by the Department of Social Justice in Thiruvananthapuram on October 15, 2022.

The ‘Majhavilu’ scheme envisaged by the state to ensure comprehensive development of the transgender community is also getting a good response. The Higher Education Department has also decided to provide two percent reservation in higher education institutions in an effort to bring transgender students into the mainstream of the society.

General Education Minister V. Shivankutty, who presided over the inaugural function of the festival, said it is the state government’s announced policy to ensure social justice for the transgender community, which will culminate on Sunday.
