Proposed ban on diesel vehicles in Delhi: Government to think about possible ‘practical problems’ – Times of India

air quality commission (CAQM) recently announced a new policy to fight air pollution in the Delhi-NCR region over the next five years. Among other things, the new policy proposes a ban on BS-IV four wheelers, except for essential services, in and around Delhi if the Air Quality Index (AQI) goes above 450.
Environment Minister Gopal Opinion The government has said that the government will take a decision on the proposal after consulting the public and analyzing the possible problems.
If the ban on diesel vehicles comes into force in Delhi, around 9.5 lakh vehicles, including privately owned cars, will be affected. If adequate arrangements are not made on time, it will create trouble for the passengers. Rai told PTI, “The commission has recommended a ban on BS4 diesel vehicles in emergency situations. We will investigate it further. We will look into the practical problems and take a decision after discussing with the people.”

For implementation of the policy of CAQM, states will need political will, the minister said, adding that the problem of air pollution in Delhi-NCR continues despite several directions from the Supreme Court, Central Pollution Control Board and CAQM, as are neighboring states. Not serious about implementation.
Rai further said that this would require a panel of state environment ministers, which would have to meet once a month to resolve the issue.
Under this policy, diesel autorickshaws will be phased out in Gurugram, Faridabad, Gautam Buddh Nagar and Ghaziabad by December 31, 2024. NCR This will be followed till 1 January 2026. The policy includes a provision for only CNG and electric autorickshaws to be registered in NCR with effect from January 1, 2023.
