Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee Raising the poll bugle in Goa on Friday, challenging the BJP-ruled Center, said its strong strategy will not work in a state with rich culture and heritage. She also said that she was a proud Hindu and the BJP was “no one” to give her character certificates.
“Delhi ka dadagiri nahi chalega (Delhi’s bullying will not work). We want the federal structure to be strong,” Mamata said. The Chief Minister launched TMC’s campaign for Goa Assembly elections and was addressing Trinamool leaders and party workers in Goa.
Mamta, accompanied by former Congress leader Luizinho Faleiro, who joined TMC last month, said, “We (TMC) want to give full protection to Goa to protect their culture and heritage. We want you to live with your head held high, live with pride.”
She further said, “I will die but I will not divide people. BJP has no one to give me character certificate on my religion. I am a proud Hindu.”
Actress Nafisa Ali and entrepreneur Mrinalini Deshprabhu also officially joined TMC in Goa, with another big name all set to attend the party at around 1 pm in the afternoon. Party sources said that he is a renowned sports personality who has made India proud at the international level.
Mamta also said that she loves Goa, and calls all Goans her “brothers and sisters”. Criticizing the Congress and the BJP for pointing fingers at others, he said TMC worked for the people. “We are humble, we are ready to respect people. Trust us. 20 people showed me black flags. I greeted them with a namaste.”
Mamata also called Goa her “motherland”, using the word ‘mother’ for Bengal. “I have not come here to be the CM. We will not be a signboard. We want to make the Goa government corruption-free,” she said.
He also said that the Congress has contested elections many times, but has not been able to bring any change in the state famous for tourism. He said there is no guarantee that the Congress will outperform the BJP, as the party cannot even control its own MLAs (referring to the massive exodus of Congress MLAs to the BJP).
