“Proud of Nandini Milk”: Fury in Karnataka over Amul’s entry

Amul is planning to use the Quick Commerce platform to facilitate the delivery of milk and curd.

Bengaluru (Karnataka):

In a setback for Gujarat-based dairy giant Amul, a hotel body in Karnataka has decided to use only Nandini milk to “support the state’s (dairy) farmers”.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Hotels Association’s decision comes after the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress and JD(S) engaged in a war of words over Amul’s announcement to enter the Bengaluru dairy market.

The Greater Bengaluru Hotels Association, in a statement, said without naming Amul, that Kannadigas should promote only Nandini milk products. “We are all proud of Nandini milk from Karnataka produced by our farmers and should be encouraged. In our city, clean and tasty coffee is the backbone of snacks. And we encourage it with great pride. It is being heard That other’s milk is being sent to states recently Karnataka. We are all Nandini,” read a statement from Bruhat Bengaluru Hotels Association.

Earlier, the Congress accused the BJP of hatching a conspiracy to kill Nandini, the state’s formidable dairy brand.

On Friday, Congress leader and former chief minister Siddaramaiah said “all Kannadigas should take a pledge not to buy Amul products”. His statement came in the wake of speculation about the merger of Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) and Gujarat’s Anand Milk Union Limited (Amul).

Siddaramaiah said, “All Kannadigas must unanimously oppose the usurpation of KMF, which has been created for the welfare of the country’s farmers. All Kannadigas must take a pledge not to buy Amul products.”

“Apart from imposing Hindi and land treason by intruding within the state borders, now the BJP government is going to cheat the farmers by shutting down the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), which is the livelihood of lakhs of people,” he said. of dairy farming families in the country.

Siddaramaiah called upon Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to immediately intervene in the matter and stop Amul from “entering (the state’s dairy market) through the back door”.

He said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who also holds the Ministry of Cooperation, should hold a referendum in the state in this regard.

The former chief minister also hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mr Shah, alleging that the KMF’s business has declined because of the weak BJP leadership in the state.

On Wednesday, Amul tweeted that there is a wave of freshness coming to Bengaluru from Kengeri to Whitefield – from the west end of the city to the east – with the hashtag “LaunchAlert”. In a follow-up tweet, the cooperative said that instant commerce platforms would be used to facilitate the delivery of milk and curd.
