PTR: Cattle Headache for PTR | Ranchi News – Times of India

Daltonganj: The presence of a large number of cattle inside Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR) is presenting challenges in its path PTR Management towards arranging water for wildlife amidst rising temperatures.
With the rise in temperature, two tankers have been pressed into service to fill the pools of water in the reserve. There are about 62 water tanks in the South Division of PTR and about 74 in the North Division.
Deputy Director of Southern Division Mukesh Kumar It is said that the kunds get filled during midday. Wild animals do not come to the water source when it is sunny as they prefer morning and evening to quench their thirst. The main water buffaloes in pools meant only for birds and animals are buffaloes. “Buffaloes enter the pool and sit there to keep themselves cool. They live in PTR and its adjoining villages,” said an employee.
There are 190 villages in and around the reserve. There are more than one lakh buffalo residents around the reserve.
