Puducherry: The iconic Ghat of Rock Beach broken due to high waves

The iconic Ghat at Rock Beach in Puducherry on Saturday partially collapsed due to high waves triggered by deep pressure over the Bay of Bengal. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a pressure has formed over southwest Bay of Bengal and is moving towards southwest at a speed of about 7 kmph during the last six hours. It is centered on the same region about 310 km north-northeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), 260 km east-northeast of Nagapattinam, 270 km east-southeast of Puducherry. “The depression over Southwest BoB moved southwestwards with a speed of about 07 kmph during last 06 hours and lay centered over the same area, which is about 310 km North-Northeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), 260 km east-northeast of Nagapattinam, 270 km east-southeast of Puducherry,” an IMD tweet said.

Apart from this, the IMD said that light to moderate rain/thundershowers are very likely to occur at a few places with isolated heavy falls at isolated places over North Coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, and light to moderate rain at isolated places. There is a chance of rain/thundershowers. South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema on March 6.

In addition, it has predicted light to moderate rain/thundershowers at many places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, and light to moderate rain at isolated places. / Thunderstorms likely with heavy rain.
