Punjab Assembly Elections 2022: AAP wins 89 seats, 3. Latest Updates

According to the latest update of the Election Commission, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has already won 89 days in the Punjab Assembly elections and is leading in 3 other seats.

Meanwhile, the Congress party is reduced to 15 seats, while the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) alliance that includes the BJP is satisfied with 5 seats.

Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi lost the electoral battle from both the assembly seats – Bhadaur and Chamkaur Sahib.

Channi had to face defeat at the hands of Labh Singh Ugake of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Bhadaur seat. Ugake won by 37,558 votes. Channi made a dent in Chamkaur Sahib too, where he was defeated by AAP’s Charanjit Singh by a margin of 7,942 votes.

The Congress gamble of fielding Channi, a member of the Scheduled Caste community, from two seats failed to yield any positive results. The party’s decision to end the anti-incumbency wave at the end of Channi’s five-year tenure to replace Amarinder Singh also failed.

Sangrur MP and party’s CM face Bhagwant Mann said on Thursday that he will take oath as the Chief Minister of Punjab at Bhagat Singh’s village Khatkarkalan and not at the Raj Bhavan in Chandigarh.

Mann said in Sangrur, “I will take oath as chief minister not in Raj Bhavan, but in Khatkarkalan, the village of Bhagat Singh.”

Mann also said that there would be no photographs of the Chief Minister in any government office during his tenure. “There will be pictures of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Babasaheb Ambedkar,” he said.

Mann has defeated Dalveer Singh Goldy of INC by a margin of 58,206 votes from Dhuri assembly constituency in Sangrur district.
