Punjab Assembly Elections: Aam Aadmi Party’s first list of 10 candidates

NS Aam Aadmi Party The (AAP) on Friday released the first list of ten candidates for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections.

All the candidates are sitting MLAs.

Senior AAP leader Harpal Singh Cheema, who is the Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, has been given ticket from Dirba seat, while Aman Arora will contest from Sunam assembly constituency.

Sarvjit Kaur Manuke will contest from Jagraon seat and Baljinder Kaur will contest from Talwandi Sabo.

According to the list, tickets have been given to Jai Kishan Rodi from Garhshankar seat, Manjit Bilaspur from Nihal Singh Wala, Kultar Singh Sandhwan from Kotkapura, Budhram from Budhlada, Gurmeet Singh Meet Hair from Barnala and Kulwant Pandori from Mahal Kalan.

Earlier in June, party supremo and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced that AAP’s chief ministerial candidate for Punjab would be from the Sikh community.

Besides this, he promised that every household in Punjab would get 300 units of free electricity every month if AAP comes to power. He insisted that if his party comes to power, Punjab would be provided 24-hour electricity and pending electricity bills would be waived off.

“We will do three big things here. First, we will give 300 units of free electricity to every family. Second, all pending household electricity bills will be waived and people’s connections will be restored. Third, 24 hours electricity will be provided,” Kejriwal said. he said.

In the 2017 assembly elections, the Congress won an absolute majority in the state by winning 77 seats and ousted the SAD-BJP government after 10 years. The Aam Aadmi Party has emerged as the second largest party by winning 20 seats in the 117-member Punjab Assembly. Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) could win only 15 seats, while BJP got three seats.

Elections to the Punjab assembly are due early next year. The election schedule has not been announced by the Election Commission yet.
