Live updates on the election results of the 117-seat Punjab Vidhan Sabha. Trends indicate a smooth victory for you.

Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, SAD patriarch Parkash Singh Badal and former chief minister Aam Aadmi Party are heading for a clean sweep to take a lead in 88 of Punjab’s 117 assembly seats after early rounds of counting on Thursday. Amarinder Singh is among the trailing stalwarts.

Early trends indicated that the ruling Congress has been wiped out in Punjab, while the SAD, which contested the elections in alliance with the BSP, has failed to make much impact.

The results of the 117 assembly seats in Punjab for which polling was held on February 20 will be declared today.

A few months before the elections in Punjab saw a strong all-out fight with the divided Congress. The state was the epicenter of farmers’ protests, and despite the Centre’s withdrawal of controversial agricultural laws, erstwhile ally SAD and BJP did not join hands. Instead, Captain Amarinder Singh’s Punjab Lok Congress and the BJP fought the election together.

Exit polls have predicted the Aam Aadmi Party to be the winner, and if the predictions come true, it will be the second state to have an AAP government after Delhi.
