AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday hit out at the Congress government in Punjab, alleging that it was unable to arrest SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia, who has been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Hitting out at the Charanjit Singh Channi-led regime, Kejriwal, whose Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is the main opposition party in Punjab, said the state government did not have the courage to arrest the former Punjab minister.

Majithia has been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act based on a 2018 report investigating a drug racket in the state. He is the brother-in-law of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal and brother of former Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal.

When asked about Majithia, Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal said, “They (the state government) have just filed an FIR and then boasted about it.” “It took them five years to register the FIR,” he said and asked how many days had elapsed since the case was registered.

Speaking to reporters in Amritsar, Punjab, Kejriwal said that he did not have the courage to arrest him. He pulled up the state government for not being able to nab Majithia despite his anticipatory bail being rejected in a Mohali court.

He said that how many days have passed since the anticipatory bail was rejected and till now no arrest has been made. Kejriwal alleged that the Congress government cares the least about the drug menace and sacrilege issues, and added that there is only a chair fight going on in the ruling party.

Majithia had moved the high court after the anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Mohali court.
