CHANDIGARH: With Swine Flu (H1N1) cases being reported in the state, Punjab The government has issued instructions to set up flu corners for the management of suspected cases of influenza-like illness in all government and private hospitals in the state.
H1N1 is a contagious disease that can turn into a serious disease if treatment is delayed. This year, a total of 38 cases of swine flu have been reported, while six infected persons – two each from Ludhiana and Patiala and one each from Sangrur and Malerkotla – have died. Considering the high mortality rate among H1N1 patients, health experts in the state have emphasized the need for immediate treatment and isolation to reduce the risk of disease transmission.
Pregnant women, infants, the elderly and people with immune deficiency are at higher risk of contracting the disease.
The Directorate of Health and Family Welfare has issued instructions to all civil surgeons and principals of medical colleges to stop the movement of patients with influenza-like illness and reduce the spread of the disease to other patients by reporting all such cases.
