The Punjab Police on Friday arrested BJP leader Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga from his residence in Delhi for allegedly making provocative statements to incite communal enmity.

An FIR was registered against Mr. Bagga under sections 153A, 505, 505(2), 506 of the Indian Penal Code at the Punjab State Cyber ​​Crime Wing at Mohali in SAS Nagar on April 1, 2022, police said in a statement. . District Seoni.

He has been charged with premeditated and planned violence, use of force, and incitement-criminal intimidation to cause imminent injury by making provocative, false and communally provocative statements through his interviews to the media. Posted on Twitter, the statement said.

Police said that 36-year-old Bagga was served five notices under section 41A of CrPC to join the investigation, but despite the notices, the accused deliberately did not join the investigation, the statement added.

“After due process of law this morning, the accused has been arrested from his house in Janakpuri, New Delhi. He is being brought here and will be produced in the court. Further investigation is on,” the statement said.

BJP leaders criticized the police action. BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh criticized the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi and Punjab for “Hitler-like action to arrest BJP’s Delhi spokesperson Tajinder Bagga”.

“It is a criminal act of Kejriwal for which Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is playing a humble role,” Chugh said.

A case was registered against Mr Bagga for allegedly making a statement on March 30, when he was part of a protest by the BJP youth wing outside the chief minister’s residence in Delhi.
