Punjabi folk singer Buta Mohammad joined the BJP in Ludhiana on Tuesday morning. However, a few hours later, she was seen in Chandigarh with former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, triggering a controversy.

On Tuesday morning, Punjabi folk singer Buta Mohammad joined the BJP in Ludhiana in the presence of Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and other party leaders.

However, a few hours later, Buta Mohammad was seen in Chandigarh with former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, causing a lot of confusion. Captain Amarinder Singh, who recently formed a new party called Punjab Lok Congress, On Tuesday, he added many new members to his party.

Buta Mohammad was seen taking a siropa (party muffler) from Captain Amarinder Singh. Punjab Lok Congress also shared pictures of Mohammad with Amarinder Singh.

The singer later clarified that he had attended Captain Amarinder Singh’s event only with his friend Sardar Ali, who was also a singer, but did not attend the Punjab Lok Congress. His friend Sardar Ali, who joined the new party, said he had joined with the hope that the party would work for the welfare of the singers.

Who is Buta Mohammed?

Buta Mohammad belongs to a family of Sufi singers in Punjab. His father, the late Sardar Mohammad, was a renowned singer and musician. Buta Mohammed learned music from his father and uncle. His brother is also a singer.

Famous songs of Buta Mohammad include Dillagi, Jhanjharan, Gabru De Modya, Hai Meri Jaan and Maa Diya Duaan. His first song was launched in 1996.

Apart from Buta Mohammad, some others also joined the BJP in Punjab on Tuesday. These include former IAS officer SR Ladhar, former IPS officer Ashok Bath and former Shiromani Akali Dal MLA Mohan Lal Banga.
