Former India captain Ajinkya Rahane was the architect of India’s most famous series win over Australia in the 2020-21 season. Team India bounced back after winning the series 2-1 after being dismissed for 36 in the first Test in Adelaide.
During the third Test of the series in Sydney, Indian pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj were racially abused by a section of the SCG crowd. The BCCI follows a zero-tolerance policy on racism and thus lodged a formal complaint with the match officials, following which the spectators were kicked off the field.
Rahane said at the launch, “When Siraj again came to me (on the fourth day, after abusing the day before), I told the umpires that (they) needed to act and we wouldn’t play till then,” Rahane said. Said at launch. Mein Tha Dum’, a documentary on India’s historic series win in Australia.
“The umpires said you can’t stop the game and you can walk out if you want. We said that we have come here to play and not to sit in the dressing room and insisted on taking the abusers off the field. It was important to support our colleague given the situation he went through. What happened in Sydney was completely wrong.”
The match is remembered for the gritty innings of Hanuma Vihari and Ravichandran Ashwin, who batted for over 30 overs on the final day, inflicting multiple body blows to help India save the Test. After the historic save, R Ashwin spoke about the incident and revealed that the constant abuses were too intimidating for the players.

It has been an emotional journey for all of us. However, after the second win, some key players of the team got injured, which gave rise to more challenges.
