Congress leader Rahul Gandhi addressed a public meeting in Karna village of Banswara district of Rajasthan on 16 May. Rahul Gandhi said that Congress has taken many steps to protect the history of tribals over the years. “The relationship between the Congress and the tribals is very old and deep. We protect your history. We do not want to erase or suppress your history. During the UPA government, we have taken a historic stand to protect your land, forest and water. Laws were brought,” he said. “Through PESA and the Land Acquisition Bill, we have protected your wealth, your produce in the forests and passed the benefits to the tribals,” he said.
