Rahul Gandhi to appear before ED today; Delhi Police denied permission for rally

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will appear before the Enforcement Directorate on Monday (June 13) in the money laundering case. Against this background, his party had decided to hold a rally outside the ED’s office, showing support to Gandhi and giving a political message to the BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

However, the Delhi Police, which comes under the central government, has denied entry to the Congress party to hold the rally. The Congress rally will be taken out on Monday by party leaders and workers from AICC Headquarters 24 Akbar Road to the ED office located on APJ Abdul Kalam Road.

Delhi Police cited law and order as the reason behind not allowing the rally.

Despite the orders of Delhi Police, some posters Rahul Gandhi Spotted outside his residence in Delhi.

Congress MPs and Congress Working Committee (CWC) members are likely to be part of the rally when Gandhi will be on his way to the ED’s office.

Earlier, Congress leader Manickam Tagore said party workers would protest at around 25 offices of the probe agency across the country against political vendetta and “misuse” of central probe agencies by the central government to “silence the voice of the opposition”. ,

The Congress party has alleged that this is a “political vendetta” and there is no ground for investigation in the matter.

The probe agency has summoned Rahul Gandhi in connection with the money laundering probe in the National Herald case. National Herald is published by Associated Journals Limited (AJL) and owned by Young Indian Private Limited (YIL).

The promoters of YIL include Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

The ED is presently probing the shareholding pattern and financial transactions as well as the role of party functionaries in the functioning of AJL and YIL.

The ED had also questioned senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress treasurer Pawan Bansal on the same grounds in April this year.

BJP MP Subramanian Swamy had alleged that Gandhi family cheated and misappropriated funds, only YIL was paying 50 lakhs to get the right of recovery 90.25 crore which AJL was owed to Congress.

He had earlier filed a complaint in a Delhi court. The ED also registered a fresh case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), after taking cognizance of the Income Tax Department’s investigation against YIL on Swamy’s plea.
