Rahul Gandhi urges Congress workers not to celebrate his birthday amid Agneepath protest

Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi has appealed to party leaders and workers not to celebrate his birthday on June 19.

In a message to them, he said The youth of the country are hurt and protesting Get out on the streets and Congress workers should stand with them.

Mr. Gandhi turned 52 on Sunday.

In a message posted on Twitter by All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary (Communications) Jairam Ramesh, Mr Gandhi said the atmosphere in the country is worrying.

The former Congress chief said, “Youth are troubled. We should stand with them and their families at this time.” Protests in many parts of the country against “Agneepath” scheme for military recruitment.

“I appeal to all Congress workers and well-wishers across the country not to celebrate my birthday in any way,” he said.

Appealing to his party colleagues, Gandhi said, “The current situation in the country is worrying. Crores of youth are in pain. We should share the pain of youth and their families and stand with them.”
