New Delhi: Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday shared a video clip of an SUV purportedly crushing farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri and asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi why no action was taken against the accused.

The veracity of the video is yet to be confirmed. While Rahul Gandhi shared the purported footage on Facebook, Priyanka Gandhi as well as AAP leader Sanjay Singh posted the video on Twitter.

“Modi ji, you are coming to Lucknow to celebrate the Amrit Mahotsav of Azadi, but have you seen this video. This video shows how a minister’s son has crushed the farmers in your government. Please watch this video and tell the nation why this minister has not been sacked yet and why this boy has not been arrested yet,” Priyanka Gandhi told eight people during a farmers’ protest in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh. asked two days after he was killed.

The Congress General Secretary on Tuesday asked the Prime Minister in Lucknow to inaugurate a program of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations, visit Lakhimpur Kheri and ensure justice to the farmers.

Among those killed in Sunday’s incident were four farmers, who were allegedly crushed by vehicles driven by BJP workers traveling to welcome Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, other BJP workers and their drivers, who were allegedly beaten to death. On Monday, the police have registered a case of murder against Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra and many others in connection with the death of farmers.

Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi said that the Constitution of the country is in danger. He said that if people do not get upset after watching the video, then humanity is also in danger.

“If the son of a minister crushes the agitating farmers under his car, the constitution of the country is in danger,” he said. If he is not detained even after this video surfaced, then the constitution of the country is in danger. If a woman leader is detained for 30 hours without an FIR, the Constitution of the country is in danger,” he said in a Facebook post.

Priyanka Gandhi, who was detained in Sitapur on her way to Lakhimpur Kheri, said it was the farmers who got freedom for the country and their sons sitting on the border are now protecting India.

“You have arrested leaders like me without any FIR or orders, I want to know why this man is still free,” she asked Modi in her tweet.

“I urge you to come to Lakhimpur and listen to the pain of Annadata and those who have got freedom and are the soul of India. It is your and the Constitution’s duty to protect them,” she said.

Addressing Modi, the Congress leader said that his government had kept him in custody for the last 28 hours without any orders and FIRs.

Priyanka Gandhi also asked why opposition leaders like her were detained without any FIR or orders and why the accused are roaming freely and not arrested.

Sanjay Singh echoed him on the microblogging site. What more evidence is needed after sharing the purported video, he asked.

Ajay Mishra and his son Ashish have demanded a judicial inquiry into the violence. The minister has denied his son’s presence at the site and cited an excuse that he was in a local school where a wrestling match was going on on Sunday.
