Raid across North India by Anti-Terrorism Agency in Action on Gangsters

Taking heavy crackdown on gangsters, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) today conducted raids at around 50 places across North India.

The raids are being conducted in coordination with the local police forces at places linked to various gangsters in Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Delhi and adjoining areas.

Officials said gangsters operating from India and abroad had come under the radar of the anti-terror agency after the investigation of some terror cases revealed nexus between gangsters and terrorists.

He said that some gangsters including Lawrence Bishnoi, the prime suspect in the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, are also working from jails.

The growing nexus between terrorists and gangsters was exposed after the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala. Officials said the Center has also sent several alerts to the Punjab Police regarding the growing network of state-based gangsters in the last two months.

Sources say that the Union Home Ministry had then asked the NIA to take coordinated intelligence-led action against these gangsters across India and also to consider their international links.

Sidhu Moose Wala was shot dead in an SUV on June 29 near Musa village in Punjab’s Mansa district.

A day after Moose Wala’s murder, Goldie Brar admitted in a Facebook post that he had planned it to avenge the murder of another gangster. Goldie Brar is a close associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
