Railways to resume catering services in all trains from February 14

IRCTC – the catering and tourism arm of Indian Railways – is ready to serve food in all trains by 14 February. As the COVID-19 cases across the country seem to be decreasing, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) decided to resume serving cooked food in all trains, the Railways said. However, the COVID-19 safety guidelines and protocols will be followed by IRCTC employees. The decision has come as a welcome relief for long-distance commuters – this decision will now allow them to have fresh food during their journey.

Railways had stopped catering services in trains as part of safety measures adopted by the national transporter in the wake of the pandemic. The measures were in force from March 2020. IRCTC has gradually restored the services.

News agency ANI According to a communication from the Indian Railways, food services have been restored in 80 per cent of trains till January this year. The remaining 20 percent of the trains will start providing food services by February 14.

Meal services were restored in premium trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto in December last year.

Some, who have already traveled in trains offering the modified service, shared their experience on social media.

Another passenger thanked the railways for the better services. The user said that he was traveling from Varanasi to New Delhi. “One thing to say is that the service, treats are top notch. In fact, I am very happy to see this. And the quality of the food is also so good and hygienic. Thank you,” he said.

Indian Railways has been striving to improve its services and the convenience of passengers for some time now.
