Railways will resume serving cooked food in trains

Indian Railway Board has decided to resume serving cooked food in trains, which were stopped due to restrictions related to coronavirus in the first place.

The Railway Board in a letter on Friday asked its tourism and catering arm Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to resume the service.

The Railway Board also said that ready-to-eat food will continue to be served to the passengers.

“In view of the resumption of normal train services, requirements of traveling passengers and easing of COVID lockdown restrictions in eateries, restaurants, hotels and such other places across the country, it has been decided by the Ministry of Railways to resume services of cooked has gone. Food in trains. The service of ready-to-eat food will also continue,” the letter said.

Recently, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has also allowed airlines to serve food on all domestic flights.

Both decisions are under control of India’s coronavirus scenario, with the average daily cases hovering around 10,000-15,000 for the past few days.

Earlier this month, the Railways had announced to run normal trains, withdrawing the special tag imposed for the pandemic.

The railways, in a letter to the zonal railways, said that the trains would now be operated with their regular numbers and the fares would revert to the normal pre-covid prices.

With the operation of special trains and without concessions, the revenue of the Railways has seen a substantial increase. It registered a growth of 113% in earnings from passenger segment during the second quarter of 2021-2022 as compared to the first.
