Rajasthan communal violence: Curfew continues in Karauli, SIT formed

A day after communal clashes in Karauli district, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has alleged that an atmosphere of religious polarization was created in India after the BJP-led NDA came to power at the Centre.

Stating that peace, brotherhood and harmony are important for development, CM Gehlot said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should appeal to the people of the country to stay away from polarization on the basis of religion and caste.

The Rajasthan CM further said, “(In view of this) the atmosphere created in the country after the NDA government came to power, I believe that the Prime Minister himself should appeal to the people of the country that in the name of this polarization Religion and caste are not fair and not in the interest of the country.”

“Unfortunately, yesterday the incident happened in Karauli and even today, in Beawar there was a fight over a small issue and one person died. If the religions (of the persons involved) are different, then in the name of religion people polarize and Make it an issue,” Gehlot said while talking to reporters in Barmer.

Hitting out at the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, Gehlot said a fake encounter took place there.

He said that it is easy to do fake encounters but the country will progress if the rule of law is maintained.

“Only then there will be justice,” he said.

On the Karauli violence, Gehlot said that he was worried since Saturday evening when he came to know about the incident.

He said, ‘I have directed the DGP that strict action should be taken against all the people involved in this matter, irrespective of community or religion. The message should go to them that the rule of law will be established in Rajasthan, it is mine. Faith.”

curfew continues

Curfew has been imposed in Karauli today while over a dozen people have been arrested and an SIT has been formed to probe into the communal clashes in the district during a motorcycle rally to celebrate the Hindu New Year. .

District Collector Rajendra Singh Shekhawat said that a relaxation of two hours would be given from 8 am on Monday and essential services would be exempted from the curfew.

Mobile internet also remained suspended today and police said they were investigating videos of violence shared on social media.

According to police, incidents of arson and vandalism were reported on Saturday at a motorcycle rally taken out to celebrate the Hindu New Year when it was passing through a Muslim-dominated area. At least 35 people were injured in the violence.

CM said that inflation and unemployment are the major challenges of today.

Targeting the Center over inflation and rising fuel prices, he said that such a big fraud has never happened in the country.

He said that during the elections in five states, the prices were not increased and now the fuel prices have started increasing.

“The people of the country should understand its governance model,” he said.
