Jaipur: Three big telecom companies of the country showed interest in the Chief Minister digital service plan Officials said on Friday that under the Rajasthan government, 1.35 crore women in the state are to be given smartphones. A senior official said a high-level committee would decide on the bidders this month after evaluation.
The government wants to complete this process as soon as possible so that this scheme can be implemented before the assembly elections to be held next year.
The total cost of the project is Rs 12,000 crore. The technical bid of the government project was opened here on Wednesday. “Technical bids were opened on Wednesday. vodafoneA private company that offered the tender did not appear,” said project in-charge Chhatrapal Singh.
He said that now a high level committee will assess the tenders and decide further. Officials are hopeful that the process will be sorted out at the earliest and the government may get the first batch of smartphones before the festive season begins. Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot was announced Chief Minister Digital Service Scheme in this year’s budget.
Under the scheme, women heads of 1.35 crore families enrolled in Chiranjeevi Swasthya Bima Yojana are to be given smartphones with internet connectivity for three years.
State-owned company Rajcomp is responsible for project implementation. Officials said the project will cost around Rs 12,000 crore, which includes the cost of mobile phones, three years of internet and other services.
An official said that the given mobile will support the two-SIM feature and a Sim will already be activated in its ‘primary slot’, which cannot be changed. Assembly elections are due in Rajasthan in December next year.
