Rajasthan SHRC issues notice on student’s death after being beaten up by teacher

The Rajasthan State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Thursday took suo motu cognizance of the death of a student in Churu after being thrashed by his teacher and issued a notice to the authorities seeking a report. Commission Chairman Justice Gopal Krishna Vyas has issued a notice to Churu Collector, Superintendent of Police and Director of Primary Education in Bikaner, seeking a reply on five points within a week.

Vyas has sought details of the action taken against the accused teacher and the owner of the school and whether the recognition of the private school has been canceled permanently, according to a statement from the SHRC. They also sought the number and qualifications of teachers in the school and whether any complaints were made by the students or their parents to the district administration or the police against the accused teachers, and if so, the action taken.

Thirteen-year-old Ganesh, who was studying in Class VII of a private school in Rajasthan’s Churu district, was thrashed to death by his teacher on Wednesday just because he had not completed his homework. The accused teacher Manoj has been arrested. The recognition of the private school has been suspended on the instructions of Education Minister Govind Singh Dotasara.
