BJP candidate Rajesh Bhatia is the richest among the main three candidates in the fray for the upcoming by-election to the Rajinder Nagar assembly seat in Delhi, according to the election affidavits filed for nomination.

According to the affidavit submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party candidate Durgesh Pathak, who has the least assets among the three candidates fielded by AAP, BJP and Congress respectively, does not own a vehicle.

Mr. Pathak, who holds a Master’s degree in English Literature from Allahabad University, has declared movable assets worth Rs.6,77,980.11 as per the documents submitted by him.

According to the election affidavit, former Municipal Councilor Mr. Bhatia has declared movable assets worth Rs 2,08,85,777.

He also owns a Honda City vehicle, 150 grams of gold worth Rs 7,90,950.

Congress candidate Prem Lata’s movable assets are Rs 6,94,970.95, according to his affidavit submitted to the Delhi CEO’s office.

A total of 32 nominations have been received for the upcoming by-election to Delhi’s Rajinder Nagar assembly seat. Election officials gave this information on Monday.

The last date for filing nominations for the competition was June 6.

While the AAP has fielded its MCD in-charge Durgesh Pathak, the BJP has nominated former councilor Mr Bhatia as its candidate for the June 23 bypoll, the results of which will be declared on June 26. Congress has fielded its former municipal councilor Prem Lata. for this seat.

According to information shared on the website, seven independent candidates have also filed nominations.

In view of the recent election of AAP leader Raghav Chadha to the Rajya Sabha, the by-election to Delhi’s Rajinder Nagar assembly seat is to be held on June 23.

Mr Chadha was an MLA from Rajinder Nagar assembly seat.

Mr Chadha, 33, had quit as the Delhi MLA a few months ago and was sworn in as a member of the Upper House of Parliament in early May.

AAP leader Sanjay Singh had said on May 28 that Mr Pathak would contest the Rajinder Nagar assembly bypoll, and had challenged Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta to join the polls and defeat the Arvind Kejriwal-led party’s candidate.
