Rajiv Gandhi assassination convict Nalini Sriharan to be released on parole today

Chennai, Tamil Nadu:

Nalini’s lawyer Radhakrishnan said Nalini Sriharan, one of the convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, would be released on parole for one month today after completing the formalities.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Radhakrishnan said, “Nalini, who was granted (parole) by the state government on Thursday, will be released on Friday after completing the bail formalities.”

The Tamil Nadu government on Thursday informed the Madras High Court that Nalini was granted one-month parole by the government following repeated requests from her ailing mother Padma.

Nalini and six others were sentenced to life imprisonment in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

In May 1991, Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by a Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) suicide bomber during an election rally in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. 14 other people also died in this attack.
