Security has been beefed up with over 100 policemen, including the Tamil Nadu Special Police Battalion, outside and inside the camp.

Police sources said a senior police officer of the rank of an assistant commissioner of police has been deployed to lead the police teams deployed at the camp to keep a round-the-clock vigil.

Police and official sources said that the four convicts have been kept in one or two rooms so that they do not mix with other foreign prisoners.

He said the four convicts would not be allowed to leave the camp, as was the rule in respect of other foreign prisoners.

District Collector M. Pradeep Kumar told Hindu On Sunday, basic facilities were arranged for the four convicts of the Rajiv incident.

He said since the four were kept in the camp on Saturday night itself, revenue officials were arranging food for them as an immediate measure.

The use of cell phones and laptops by any prisoner is banned inside the camp.

The special camp, which started functioning in Tiruchi since September 2011, currently houses 136 inmates, including the four convicts in the Rajiv case.

Various police stations had registered separate cases against Sri Lankan Tamils ​​with most of the inmates of the camp on the account of the state.

Prisoners from other countries like Bangladesh and Nigeria are also staying in the camp.

The prisoners have been booked for alleged involvement in various crimes including murder, drug possession, besides cases registered under the Passports Act.

Shri Pradeep Kumar said that the State Government is giving a cash grant of ₹145 per day to each prisoner inside the camp to manage their daily needs.
