Rajni, Mathana Kumar win top honors in National Motorcycle Racing Championship

Veteran riders Rajini Krishnan, Mathana Kumar, Jagriti Penkar and Sarvesh Balappa won titles in their respective categories as the fifth and final round of the MRF MMSC-FMSCI National Motorcycle Racing Championship 2022 concluded at the Madras International Circuit here on Sunday.

Rajani (RACR Castrol Power1), needing just one more point for the title, moved up to fourth place to seal the championship, his 11th national career crown in the Premier Pro-Stock 301-400 cc Open category, while Mathana Kumar (pacer Yamaha) from Trichy topped the Pro-Stock 165cc Open class, finishing fourth for his third title in 11 years, with Rajiv Sethu finishing second in the overall standings.

Earlier, Jagriti (Axor Sparks Racing), a 21-year-old science graduate from Mumbai, was speculated to be the winner of the Girls (Stock 165cc) championship, following the disqualification of the race winner Lani, even before it was confirmed that , was his first title. Sarvesh Balappa (Xor Sparks Racing), who had taken an unassailable lead in the final round, kept it clean and avoided a close fight for fourth place. His teammates Kayan Zubin Patel and Rohan Ramesh finished first and second ahead of Chirant Viswanath (Rookies Racing).

Meanwhile, Rajini did the same in the closing Pro-Stock 301-400cc open race as he was content to follow the trio of KY Ahmed, Jagan Kumar and Deepak Ravikumar of Petronas TVS Racing. Incidentally, Ahmed completed a double.
